milk run

Looking to take some beginners from Johnson’s village to fisherman’s bridge. Thoughts? Not going until early September, will be in hard frame rafts

May be possible this year but August 15 is usually when the flow program ends and they turn off the water on the Arkansas. Things get pretty bony on the Ark after that. Unless y'all are going to be in duckys, you should consider the Upper Colorado instead. Due to the Shoshone power plant (Public Service) water right the Upper C flows all late summer and fall with releases from Green Mountain Reservoir.

There's also plenty of great novice boating on the Upper C.

Shoshone hydro plant, the most fascinating water right in the West

Enjoy!

It's really a crapshoot right now to give you advice either way. The snowpack is significantly above average, and the forecast is for the summer to be rainy, but things have just got really hot and the snow is melting fast. As Andy said releases are cut off middle of August, so the flows after that really depend on the weather for the next 60 days or so....

I wouldn't personally take a group of framed rafts down the Milk Run at flows less than 500-600 on the Nathrop gauge. If flows are lower than that, look at going downstream. Salida East to Rincon is a good alternative.
