Middle Fork @3.5'-Which? 16'cat or 13.5'raft??

Launch next week on the middle fork...

Was planning to take a 16' cat with a grand frame (72x120) but with the levels dropping below 4' and likly closer to 3.5' or 3' for our trip I am debating about taking a smaller 13.5' NRS Otter.

Does the MF get a little skinny for a big cat at 3-3.5'??? This will be my first run on the MF.

Any thoughts?

I run a 17 foot raft down to 1.4 feet.

I would say take what is most comfortable. The MF at 3.35 to 3.5 is about as easy as it gets.

We regularly take 14 ft. Cats and 16 ft. Rafts down the MF well below 2 ft. At 3-3.5 ft. you won't have problems with the 16 ft. Cat. Take whichever boat you want. Have a great trip.

Ya'll think there's gonna be another spike in flows? Looks like its trending down, but it looks like there's rain/snow this week and then starting to warm up for the next.

We launch June 17th, so I'm watching river levels...

I've run an 18' cat down at 2.1' Also run a 14' cat at 3. I was nervous about the big cat but it was only the first day I had any issues.

Big difference between 2' and 3'. At 2' its pretty much there is no easy clear path, you need to pick which rocks you want to hit, and which ones you want to straddle.

3' you will have plenty of water. Just don't be stupid and try and pack it like you are on a grand canyon trip ...

the warmth later this week could give a bump in the river.

But without major precip followed by warmth we likely won't get more than a minor (half foot) flux in the flow.

but look at 2009. If it gets cold after next week, snows and then warms up who knows? We hit almost nine feet the first week of June on a drier year than this.
