Chama Flows

We pulled a permit for June 9th this year. Right now it is running at 3000. I was wondering if this is a kid friendly level? We were planning on having two 12 ft rafts and some duckies for the kiddos.

Also launching June 9th

Seriously doubt there will that kind of flow then but have not done any information-gathering to see what folks think it might be. I assumed it would be in the 750-1200 range but they might have bigger commitments downstream than that.

How old are the kids and have they paddled much? I ran it this spring at ~2000 and some spots were bigger than I would feel comfortable putting young ones out by themselves. Even then, it's still a very family friendly river. My biggest issue was there was enough current it was not easy for a solo rafter to pull in easily to many of the camp sites.

Will probably see you at the ranch then and on-river.

Thanks for your response. The river has now dropped to 500 and is still dropping. I'm wondering what this weekend will look like.

I'm packing right now for the commute from Phx.

The wife dropped out which coupled with the reduced flow caused a switch for myself to an IK.

I'm really hoping that they follow tradition and bump flow for the weekend. Hopefully at least a couple hundred CFS and would love more. I have never gone this low but expect no issues with an IK. Good thing you were bringing smaller rafts instead of heavy loaded 16 footers.

See you on launch day. Will be the guy with a blue AIRE tandem IK.

I just got off of the phone with the Taos BLAM Field Office. They said to expect 500 all weekend.
