Best Days?

We're beating a dead horse! Don't be stupid and you won't get a ticket or die. The GC permit system isn't fair but won't get fixed easily.

My question to every buzzard, what was your best day or trip this past boating season? My choice is hard. My ultimate decision, which may seem mundane to some of you: My daughter finally seeing real rapids, on an awesome day on Westwater. What was your's?

Seeing the dirty devil river country for the first time and thinking to myself, if this "river" was in any other state besides Utah it would have a wild/scenic designation.

Day 3 of Lower Main Salmon trip and hearing my kids say

"Dad, that was one of the best days of rafting"

That day was cold and wet from the start. It rained, the wind blew, we got cold, we complained, and we persevered. We got to camp and the rain stopped We had ourselves a great fire, hot chocolate, stir fry and a chocolate cake. Then the rains came back We retired to the tent and read more Harry Potter. And as we started to fade away my 7 year old looks at me and says that. We have lots of super sunny, fun warm splashy days where we've seen natures comfortable beauty. But this day was so different than that and he recognized it. That made it one of the best days for all of us.

I Like this story. My kids are grown and have busy lives. Even though they love the river, I don't get to boat with them that much anymore. We did manage to get together for an August Rogue trip. My son rowed the gear boat (yeah!) with my granddaughter while my daughter and I rowed the puma. Just the four of us. It was a great trip that brought back many memories from the numerous trips we made when they were little.

My second highlight last year was a solo trip on the Grande Ronde in my refurbished sweep boat. I had never done a multi-day solo trip so that was interesting. And the changes I made to the boat worked flawlessly.

Last year my best day was myself and a great old friend on the royal gorge. Shuttle was run for us so we didn't have to drive. No kids, no wife's, it was like how it was years ago. drank a few beers at corner pocket. Like I said, how it was, no worries just fun.

best day

My single best day was finally getting to paddle the Chute on Muddy Creek in Utah. That is an exceptionally cool run.

Best trip was finally getting to run the Yampa. That canyon is so beautiful.
