Bent Frame, No Damage to tube?

Starting around the 53-54 second mark of the above video, you see Mark Cramer hit a big rock with his left tube in the middle of a rapid called Super Slide. I believe this is the run where he bent the frame, but did no damage to the tube, yet the tube took the hit - hard to believe?

I've seen it done in person. Bent the welded steel frame beyond repair. Tubes were totally fine.
