Arkansas River Royal Gorge Takeout - Where to go?

This topic may have been posted in the past, but seems there are some who are unaware of changes for the Arkansas River Royal Gorge take-out access points

Pink House. AHRA (Colorado Parks and Wildlife) no longer has a lease with Ann Brown. Unless you are a member of AROA, you will not be able to use this access point any more (its gated now).

That leaves private boater's three options for takeout when doing Parkdale to Canon City that I got from AHRA representative, John Kreski, and my opinions on each:

Centennial Park - Its a narrow ramp on river right just past 1st Street bridge which can maybe support one or two boats. The city has been doing construction there, too, which has made the ramp narrower. In my opinion, its an OK ramp if you want to carry your boat up to set on the grass, but if you got a trailer, it sucks.

River Station - This is just past the 4th street viaduct and after you run the play wave. There are two big ramps on the left. AHRA has a lease there now and both privates and commercial can take out here. This ramp used to be commercials only until this year. Outfitters may try to tell you it is commercial only, which is BS. Tell them to grab a ranger if they don't like it. This is a great ramp with plenty of room for everyone - just like Pink House. The River Station owners are asking that vehicles you leave for a shuttle be parked on the west side of the 4th Street viaduct.

Raynolds Bridge - further downstream. If you don't mind the extra time floating Class 1 through town, its an OK ramp on river right just past the bridge. Not real wide if there are privates and commercial outfitters taking out.

Personally, I am using River Station until AHRA says it is no longer an option.

A couple of commercial outfitters were trying to prevent private boaters from taking out at River Station this last weekend, even though there are signs that clearly say that it is Commercial and Private boater access now.

As long as you do your long-term parking on the west side of the 4th street viaduct, do the 15 minute load/un-load limit that is standard for all ramps, and use other courtesies, then you will be OK to use this ramp for private boating. If a commercial company does confront you about using the ramp, call AHRA (719-539-7289).

Hope this helps.
