Animas River: Durango to Farmington

Hey, I'm a reporter for the local paper in Durango (and a boater), and I'm working on a story about a local group's effort to promote boating, as well as access, on the Animas River, on the stretch from Durango down to Farmington.

I'm hoping to find and speak with people who've run that stretch for my article. If you have and would like to talk, give me a call at 970-375-4515.

Thanks!

The good folks at 4CRS have created an excellent river guide for this stretch of river and likely have plenty of contacts.
Also talk to Jacks Plastic Weld folks in Aztec.

I've run from Cedar Hill down to Aztec, which makes a great local day run for those in the area. I believe access points are a problem between Durango and Aztec due to reservation and private lands, but there is limited BLM land and some islands suitable for overnight camps. Not aware of any fences, but some old scrap metal along banks used for erosion control, and a couple diversions make for small rapids to negotiate, depending on cfs flow.
