For the first time since the CRMP was instituted private launches exceeded 500. Last year 508 private trips launched from Lee's Ferry and 6865 people enjoyed a trip on the Colorado River. Kudos to Steve Sullivan from the River Permit Office for his herculean efforts to assure that every trip possible will launch. This has been a long time in the making and GCPBA wants to thank all of it's supporters for the efforts they have made including membership dues, donations, volunteering time and materials and the emotional support we have needed over the years to get to this point. It truly has been a group effort. You can see the full set of river statistics here https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvis...stics_2018.pdf
I would like to remind everyone that the River Patrols will be back on the river this season. They will be looking for the usual things. Among them, PFD 's worn while on the river, fire blankets, kitchen ground tarps and generally ensuring that the regulations are followed and everyone is safe. Please keep in mind that all laws that are in effect on the Rim apply on the river as well. If your trip has an interaction with one of the patrols please be courteous and respectful and I am sure the rangers will act in the same manner. It would be interesting to know how any interactions occur and what your opinion of it was. Feel free to post any reports to our Facebook pages https://www.facebook.com/groups/1424392787831584/
and help keep the community informed.
