San Juan - shuttle (May 25, 2018)

My wife and I are launching on the upper Juan this week Friday and are looking to hop aboard another trip's shuttle. We'll gladly pay your parking fee.

stick your thumb out

I can't think of an easier multi day river trip to hitchhike. Leave your wife with the boat at the put in then drop your car at the take out then hit the road. You'll be back at Sand Island in less than 2 hours round trip.

Yup, that's the current (not quite preferred) plan

I did this trip years ago and remember a business offering a shuttle service for that section of river. I do not remember the name but maybe you could google it. I do remember they had random times/day this service was available.

Thanks Daairguy. I'm completely familiar with both Jim Hardin (San Juan Shuttles) and the service provided by Valle's in Mexican Hat. I just struggle to justify what they charge for this particular shuttle and Jesse711 is correct, ' thumbing it' SHOULD work. I simply had a... less than desirable experience once and like to meet people (and give them beer too) .

I get that. Good luck hitchhiking and enjoy the river.

I've been warned that vehicles left at the put in or take out and not watched by a shuttle company are at pretty high risk of theft/vandalism. I've always paid the reasonable cost for the peace of mind as much as for the convenience. Food for thought.

Paulster, that is true, always pay for the parking. I'm looking for a ride back to the ramp.
