Paddling near Flagstaff, AZ

Hey everyone! I just moved to Flagstaff, AZ. Was wondering if anyone can recommend some scenic paddling spots in the area. I’m open to anything class I-III. Just looking for a beautiful day on the river.

Thanks, in advance!!

The entire state of Arizona has minimal water right now. Hopefully it starts raining down there soon. The snowmelt season is usually February through April, when there is snow. Arizona's snowpack was dismal this season and didn't really have a runoff at all. Normally you would be looking at Oak Creek, Verde, Tonto and the Salt. American Whitewater says there is enough water to float Childs to Horseshoe Reservoir on the Verde, but it's only flowing 76 cfs so I can't say I would recommend that. Fossil Creek is a bunch of class III ledges that go at the base flow of 46 cfs, but it has become so popular that you have to apply for a day use permit to visit the area. Sorry for the bad news.

The lower Salt (class I) is flowing over 1000 cfs if you don't mind floating with a bunch of drunken tubers.....

Thanks so much for the feedback! So sad that it’s so dry here right now. 😞 They closed the forest in this area, too. So the mountain biking options are minimal. Guess that means it’s time to work on technique.

When in Rome...
