Fishing on Yampa in early June

Have a permit to float the Yampa June 8 was wondering about bringing the fly rod. I know about the Jones Hole area but was wondering about before the junction with the green. Any resources you can direct me to would be much appreciated. SYOTR.

Pretty sure there's no trout once you get about 40 miles west of Steamboat - the water just gets too warm. That being said, I know there's catfish (not great on a fly rod), and bass in the river down there.

Those thoughts ran across my mind. That's why I asked don't want to drag it along if there's no need for it. Thanks.

Jones Hole is great for trout, bring your fly rod... spinning rod also, bass, crappie, catfish on other parts of the Yampa. Have to release these fish though. Have fun, great river trip.

Most of the Yampa below Deer Lodge will be running 'coffee with cream' brown and full of silt. Jones Hole Creek has good trout fishing because it is fed by a underground spring. It adds a lot of cool clear fresh water and there is good fishing for browns and rainbows all the way from the confluence to the trout hatchery upstream. Look out for the stinging nettles along the banks.

Note: you will need both a Colorado and Utah fishing license, just having the rod in your possession counts as fishing.
