Clean Water for Colorado rally
Sorry for the last minute post, but Trout Unlimited along with support from Down River Equipment and others are organizing a rally and march Tuesday, August 22nd. Details below and can be found on our Facebook page as well.
Dear clean water supporters:
It’s time to take a stand and raise our voices for clean water in Colorado. Please consider attending the Clean Water for Colorado rally next Tuesday, Aug. 22, to show support for maintaining strong protections of our rivers, streams, wildlife and drinking water supplies.
Tuesday, in downtown Denver, Colorado sportsmen and women, outdoor recreationists, craft brewers, outdoor recreation business owners, homeowners and other Coloradans who value clean water will rally to show support for keeping our waterways clean and safe for wildlife, communities and businesses in the face of the administration’s push to roll back protections. A current review could undermine protections for 60 percent of U.S. streams, 20 million acres of wetlands and waters that contribute drinking water for one in three Americans.
Please make a colorful, positive sign that expresses support for clean water and healthy rivers and bring it to the EPA building during the lunch hour – let’s raise our voices and show elected leaders and EPA officials that Clean Water Act protections won’t be scrapped without a fight from Coloradans!
Here’s the details from organizers:
WHAT: Clean Water for Colorado rally. Speakers will include outdoor recreation business owners, a brewery owner and anglers.
Visuals: A flotilla of river rafts and kayaks, colorful homemade signs and an appearance by Trout Unlimited’s Fraser Trout mascot.
WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 22, noon MT
WHERE: LoDo in Denver, 16th and Wynkoop streets, south side of Union Station (across from the Tattered Cover bookstore, in front of the Environmental Protection Agency building).
WHO: Speakers include:
Jon Kahn, owner of Confluence Kayaks
Henry Wood, Upslope Brewing
Corinne Doctor, co-founder of RepYourWater
KC Becker, state representative, District 13
Suggested messaging for participants:
We’d like to keep the signs positive and focused on support for clean water and rivers – if you’re bringing a sign, here are some sample messages of the kind we’re looking for:
“We All Live Downstream – Keep Our Rivers Clean!”
“Don’t Trash Our Home Waters”
“Polluted Water DOESN’T FLOAT OUR BOAT!”
“Let’s Play by the Clean Water Rules!”
“Drain the Swamp—Not Colorado’s Wetlands!”
You get the idea. Be creative, have fun, and don’t be overtly partisan or political – no harsh anti-Trump or anti-GOP signs, please.
