2017 South Platte River Cleanup

12th Annual South Platte River Clean Up

When: Saturday, April 22nd, 2017

Time: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm

Registration & Shuttles: 9:00 am – 11:00 am
On the Water: Noon – 3:00 pm
After Party: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Confluence Kayaks, 2373 15th Street, Denver Co, 80202 (click link for map)

Currently the South Platte River is flowing too low to float. Small rafts need a minimum of 250 cfs. But, we’re planning to walk or bike if we can’t float, please still plan to come join the cleanup!
It is supposed to rain… but even if we get to 250 cfs, this is an urban river and who knows what dangers lurk on the bottom to tear up inflatables. Therefore, we will make the call Saturday morning, so be flexible. There will be dumpsters strategically placed along the river but it might be helpful if you have a cart or wagon to bring. We’ll still welcome all the help we can get and host a terrific after-party at Confluence Kayaks. Keep an eye on the river flows at American Whitewater, stay tuned to our Facebook Page and do your rain dances!

The weather forecast is calling for 50’s and rain, so please remember to bring warm, waterproof clothing. It could be a long day in the rain.
What: For the past several years, over 250 rafters, kayakers, cyclists and pedestrians have come together and successfully removed over 2 TONS of garbage from Denver’s South Platte River corridor. The event has received local and regional attention as the best river stewardship event in the Metro area. This year, Colorado Whitewater, in partnership with Down River Equipment, and Confluence Kayaks is presenting the 12th Annual South Platte River Clean-up, and we need your help to make it the MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR YET! Participating in the Clean-up is a great way to give back to your community and take care of the river that winds its way through the heart of Denver. Registration is FREE and there’s a terrific after party with giveaways.

Event Details: Participants can join by raft, kayak, or other water craft. Please note that rafts and inflatable kayaks are easier to carry trash. We also encourage people to participate by bike or by foot! If you do not have a ride on a water-craft, there will be a very limited amount of available seats on rafts. PLEASE bring a LIFE JACKET!!! Please arrive early and properly dressed (river appropriate life jacket, water shoes, river attire, etc.) and we will try to find you a ride. Trash bags, trash pick-up sticks, and gloves will be provided.
