Moms- paddling & diastasis?

Any kayaker moms out there know about diastasis (ab split from pregnancies, results in the mommy gut since your abs aren't holding in your stomach) and paddling? I just had my second baby 3 months ago and have paddled a couple of times this season. I fear that paddling will make the gap/diastasis bigger. On reading up on the subject, you're not supposed to do obliques, which is pretty much all you do when paddling! I fear I am going to have to stop paddling until the ab gap is closed (next season?) Just wondering if any of you moms out there have had experience with this. I hear that the bigger the gap is, the longer it will take to fix (with exercises to strengthen the transverse abs).

It depends on how big the separation is. Here is a good website that will fill you in on some exercises and myths about diastasis.

Thanks, Brenda! My gap is 3 fingers width, but it was a 2 a couple of months ago. I've been doing yoga (didn't know to avoid triangle pose, but have been avoiding the obvious ab intense poses, like boat) and paddled a couple of times. So I made the gap bigger. I am just 3 months post partum, so I think I will have to not paddle this season until I can repair the diastasis and gain my core strength back. Bummer.
