Kings of Leon
Drive-by Truckers
Dar Williams
Toots and the Maytals
Supersuckers
Avett Brothers
Hank III

Or... I'm sure Jack Johnson is going to come out with a new album soon.

Music service

This thread is a bit stale but I will offer this up anyhow:

Have you ever considered a streaming service like Napster or Rhapsody? Napster dropped their prices to $5 a month. They work really good for music discovery. I use them in conjunction with other free services like LastFM and Pandora. When I hear a new song off Lastfm or Pandora I hop over to my music service and check if it's available. If it is I then have access to the entire album. Most of the new stuff is always there. For instance I had never heard of "Kings of Leon" and someone suggested I give them a listen. That night I went home and streamed the entire album. I have a Sonos ZP 100 set up on my home stereo and it has direct access to my Napster account. streamed the entire thing that night. It was great. If you have not checked out SONOS you should.

Napster will also notify you when a new album comes out. Got a email from my service the day the new chickenfoot album came out. Streamed entire album that night and like it so much I then bought the media. It's great way to determine if you want to buy the entire album or just download select MP3 as well. I have several albums on my hit list now that want that I totally discovered with a combination of Pandora and Napster.

Rhapsody also has a player application that is available on several mobile devices. I use it at work all the time on my Nokia n810 or any other place that has WifI.

There is also a music station out there now that allows you to play a song and then make it available to your friends. It's kinda like twitter except it's for music.

Anyway the point is there are some mechanisms out there to find out some really cool music. Every heard of Black Grape? or Ian Brown's solo albums?

Well, i'm out of high school too long but will put my 2 cents in here anyway as i am a professional musician who takes requests and i know that the young people today are requesting Jason Mraz more than anyone else.
I like his music and perform his biggest hit "I'm Your's" which is lots of fun to play and sing.
I have his Best of CD too and it's got lots of fun stuff on it.
Hope you like reggae.

I got a ton of good ideas for my river tunes from this thread. The playlist I am most proud of for river days is my "Sunny Lazy River Days" on Spotify. All live versions of my favorite river joints. Enjoy.

Sadly, this thread is from 2009. When this started, these young hipsters were keeping their myspace cool and waiting for those torrents to download. Unfortunately, no one can add to this list of cool music as cool young high school graduates under 25 don't exist anymore. Even the OP is now in his 30's, probably married, owns a raft, and may even fall into the group of completely uncool dads and beer gutted hairy rafters.

So this brings a philosophical question. If this thread was intended to exclude all old uncool opinions from idiots over the age of 25, then are all of the fresh hip opinions expressed back in 2009 now stale and uncool, or is their coolness preserved forever like canned spam?

Damn dude. Great playlist. I had about 1/3 of those songs and like your taste in music. Looking forward to listening to the whole thing.

Check out the library. High tides and low tides are sweet upbeat and mellow road trip tunes respectively.

I'll have to check out your Eggs over Irie Hard and Easy, and SoCal Dirty Dubs lists, too. I have all my reggae mixed into a single playlist.

Are you one of those horrible people who likes music in camp? We may need to boat together!
