The Conservative Tax Naiveté

One of the largest complaints coming from the conservative right recently has been on the subject of taxes and how socialistic they are. The truth is that taxes do represent a form of redistribution, but in a very interesting way. The vast majority of Red (Republican) states are net federal recipients, while the vasy majority of Blue (Democratic) states are net federal donors. What this means is that for every tax dollar spent in a Red State, that state receives more than a dollar in federal services. It also means that for every tax dollar spent in a Blue state, that state receives less than a dollar in federal services. While I wouldn't begrudge any state important federal aid, Democratic states, through their tax contributions, are essentially paying for the bridges, stop signs and schools in Red States while the (Mainly Republican) residents of those states complain about their own "heavy" tax burden.

My source: TaxProf Blog: Red States Feed at Federal Trough, Blue States Supply the Feed.

You go get 'em, Sugarpie!

When you're done, could you freshen up my cocktail and fetch my slippers? Daddy's just too busy to do that stuff...

"Behind every good man is a woman smarter than him"- it's finally been proven.

Sometimes, behind a marginally good man, is a person masquarading as his wife!

Yes Rich, there is a Ms. DurangoSteve... but interestingly she hates computers.

It's an imposter. My wife is more likely to say nice things about Dick Cheney than post on an online forum!

Guess it depends how you "mix" it, doesn't it? And, of course, the state in which you reside...

Steve,
I didn't mean to offend you by creating this name. I've never been a member of mountainbuzz, I've just read it and was somewhat impressed by your postings. After a couple beers and a fair share of Fox news induced liberal outrage, I thought it would be a hilarious idea to create this name and a great public service to give you a liberal ally. I think the admin is going to help me change the name. Until then bear with me....
