With lower water levels and clearer water, I tried something new (for me at least) just above the dam on the Colorado river. This is done a good deal on the coast but locally it's rare to dive to the river bottom. The currents are mild but steady and the water is cool but not too bad. Having a board to dive off of was great as I could paddle to certain eddys and just hop off to check the bottom out. Let the board drift in the current with me and use it as a platform in the middle of the river. Another fun way to use a stand up board here in the mountains.
1. Paddle upstream and suit up for the drift.
2. Looking down. Can still wear fins when paddling and simply hop off when you find a spot you want to check out.
3. Diving the river.
