Poll: Would you put panties on someone's head to prevent a terrorist act?

Since putting panties on a man's head is considered torture by the Geneva Convention, what would you do in the following situation:

A known terrorist is caught in New York with traces of explosives and radioactive material all over his apartment and car. A secondary source tells you that there is a dirty bomb in the NYC subway set to explode at any time. Since the terrorist's Facebook page tells you he has a dire aversion to women and that his greatest fear is having a woman's panties put on his head ala Abu Ghraib, would you put panties on his head to find out where the bomb is? Or would you let the bomb go off?

Why does accessing his greatest fear have to be the first or only option for getting him to talk? Have you tried gaining his trust as the book Helio recommends on the other thread suggests?

I'm glad I don't have to make these kinds of decisions.

At least you recognize that this luxury doesn't exist for everybody.

TT: You're engaged in the Ticking Time Bomb Fallacy:

The following is from a marine interrogator 2001-2004:

Quote:
You assume that an ideologically driven terrorist would answer the questions truthfully even under torture when all he had to do was withstand for several days to let another 9/11 happen. This is absurd.

The terrorist would withstand because they are so close to the "finish line." Even more likely though, assuming that the terrorist was captured several days before his plan comes to fruition, would be to give us thousands of leads (which he did anyways when he was captured) with a little truth at the core and we would go ragged chasing them all down while the terrorists boarded the planes without a problem.

Bottom line, the ticking time-bomb scenario is just not a justification for torture of an ideologically motivated person who has immense incentive to withstand and disseminate false information. Finally, there are other methods that could "break" the terrorist in the above scenario like the shock of capture and some thoughtful, sophisticated tricks that are certainly not torture and in the Army manual.

Well, I was being facetious- I don't really believe you are holding a terrorist captive, but if you are, I feel sorry for him, primarily because you consider the decision to torture or not torture "a luxury."

I guess to save humanity I'd bite the bullet and wear the panties on my head. What a minute....how big are these panties?

I don't think it is a fallacy at all.

Yes, I have one in my closet. I tried the sweaty jock strap, but he seemed to enjoy it so the next step is the panties. Please don't report me to Amnesty.
