History will show her selection as one of the greatest campaign blunders ever. Sure, she got the flat-earthers fired up, but thank God they are a minority in this country. McCain, pre-Palin, was an appealing middle-of-the-roader, someone independents could have easily embraced with enthusiasm. His naked ambition, as evidenced by the selection of Palin, and the overwhelmingly negative tone of his campaign doomed him. Sad. He was once an admirable man.
Palin will make a decision in the next 2 years whether she wants to be a national player or stay as she is, big fish in small pond. If she chooses to go national, don't misunderestimate her. I don't think she's as dumb as her charicature has been portrayed... I think she was thrust into a role, ill-prepared, without enough time to prepare. Had the process of preparing her began in January, she would have been much more formidable. She could be in the future.
"self-aggrandizing jackass" - it says it right on the label
Palin has tasted the trappings of power on a national level, and will likely never again be satisfied with little, old Alaska. She most certainly will be back in 2012... at least in the primaries. She is a charismatic politician to be sure, but the Chronic Winking Disorder thang (along with her fundie worldview) will doom her in the vast, centrist expanse of America. I believe she's as polarizing a figure as Hillary Clinton who will ultimately accelerate the already rampant fragmentation of the GOP.
Does she have the potential to learn some geography? Perhaps. At the moment I see her as a charming (or repulsive... depending upon your biases/predispositions) pol who can work a crowd. Personally, I think she IS dumb with an acute (or cutesy) ability to manipulate and charm the gullible amongst us. In short, a compelling con artist... if you buy the con.
I don't know, I think it's pretty damn funny--kind of annoying to listen to, but what she's saying is funny and damn true...
I think it's interesting to see the McCain campaign wizards now ripping Palin when, as Campbell Brown pointed out very correctly (not a huge Brown fan, just not taking credit for her commentary)--they picked her, and the supposedly vetted her...hmmm
also, the in the other vids that come up after that vid, the "when I move up" is pretty darn funny too
