Oh wow.
Even about 10 years ago, when I was a guide on the Arkansas river in Co, we always supplied helmets for our customers, it was at least company policy, if not a regulation for outfitters, that guests had to where helmets on class 3 and up.
Our company also required guides to where helmets, if the customers had to. Getting launched without a brain bucket, into a boat full of helmet clad paddlers, is like being thrown into a boat full of rocks.

That fatality sounds really tragic, and sadly, avoidable.

I was about to start with my typical Libertarian rants that Democrats and Republicans despise so much. But according to this article its not requiring the use, only making them available. I thought it was insane when I first saw rafters wearing helmets. It is certainly not my cup of tea, but not a big deal to just make them available.

Yeah when i first saw the article title i thought for sure oregon was going to have a helmet law for all rafting. Much like seatbelts in cars. I can actually get behind this measure..

I truly believe the gentleman we recovered on a river trip, from another group, would be alive today if he was wearing a helmet of any kind. When we placed him into the tarp we noticed a substantial head injury in the back of his head. Very sad situation. It was a family trip, I believe.
