Obama day 1

He restricted the lobbyists access to the administration and capped the pay for top administrators. I say good start... What's next on the to do list?

LSB - thanks for the link. I especially liked these points made in the article:

Quote:
The president said that when top White House aides leave government, they are barred from lobbying “for as long as I am president, and there will be a ban on gifts by lobbyists to anyone serving in the administration.”

A lobbyist who joins the Obama administration also is forbidden from working on issues they previously were involved with, he said. Any person who leaves the administration will be barred from lobbying the government for two years.

“We need to close the revolving door that lets lobbyists come into government freely and lets them use their time in public service” to promote their own interests when they leave, the president said. Government hiring, he said, will henceforth be based on qualifications, competence and experience, “not political connections.”
This is a very promising start!

Sounds like bald-faced creeping socialism to me! This is just the first step towards a NEW WORLD ORDER! (All the conspiracists know what I'm talking about.)

I'd really love to see these kinds of rules extended to our military...

So General Dynamics can't grease the wheels of commerce anymore?

Most likely, what's needed is a rule that keeps retired military people (with fat pensions and health care) from representing corporations on defense contracts, i.e. sucking up to their recent subordinates and pals in the Pentagon.

The waste, fraud, and abuse involved in so-called defense spending is far and away the largest misappropriation of tax dollars in the federal budget. The welfare cheats and Medicare gougers can't come close.

But Congress loves it.

Theft wrapping itself in the flag.

You think military retirees have fat pensions?

Upper-level officers (colonel and above) have pretty decent pensions and benefits, I think. My uncle (a general) retired to a big house in Vegas on that alone.

The people I'm concerned with are those who go from procurement in the Pentagon to working for big defense contractors— a revolving-door deal pretty much like the one with K Street.
