Canal would stretch 173 miles from Punta Gorda on the Caribbean through lake Nicaragua to the mouth of the river Brito on the Pacific.
Something to know about.

Lake Nicaragua Disaster

I hope they don't accidentally drain Lake Nicaragua! That would be an unprecedented disaster. The price of fish would be rock bottom for a week.

Lake Nicaragua, despite being a freshwater lake, has sawfish, tarpon, and sharks.[2] Initially, scientists thought the sharks in the lake belonged to an endemic species, the Lake Nicaragua Shark (Carcharhinus nicaraguensis). In 1961, following comparisons of specimens, the Lake Nicaragua Shark was synonymized with the widespread Bull shark (C. leucas),[6] a species also known for entering freshwater elsewhere around the world.[7] It had been presumed that the sharks were trapped within the lake, but this was found to be incorrect in the late 1960s, when it was discovered that they were able to jump along the rapids of the San Juan River (which connects Lake Nicaragua and the Caribbean Sea), almost like salmon.[8] As evidence of these movements, bull sharks tagged inside the lake have later been caught in the open ocean (and vice versa), with some taking as little as 711 days to complete the journey.

Running rapids with Bull Sharks, where would that fall in the whitewater rating system?

I have read that the Chinese are behind this new canal, to compete and or not have to use the panama canal for shipping. Also, the elite Chinese that are interested in removing themselves from the polluted chinese mainland are beginning to create an environment for themselves and this in turn is pushing a lot of the native central americans our way. A reason for the exponential increase in immigrants over the past couple of years.

The Chinese want to ship goods on ships larger than the "Panamax", the largest Panama Canal sized vessel. It will pay for itself in a few decades because of the larger ships alone. I bet it happens this century.

You've never run with a group of little old ladies in tennis shoes then I take it?

You know, the kind who question riding the old yellow school bus (rather than limousines) 30 miles on dirt (what, they can't pave this?) to demand lunch on arrival at the put in, and then bitch at the use of paper plates............... and it goes on from there. Adds 2 points to the rating scale.

Anyway, bull sharks would not add to the whitewater rating system, that is unless they were Democrats

NOTE; Schutzie is attempting humor here, not interested in starting anything, just having a bit of fun.
