Crazy Captain Jack,A Good hearted Man!
It was mid october 1973 the aspens still had some color, storm peak had the first dusting of snow! I was 19, and very green,
My VW bug made it over rabbit ears pass and I thought this is where I'll hang for the winter. Not much money in the pockets after my first pass purchase, needed to find a job, grabbed a copy of the Pilot and sat down at the local lunch spot, El Rancho Cafe. Help Wanted Dish Washer! Right there at the El Rancho, before my plate was empty I was standing in the kitchen shaking hands with a tall, long blonde haired new englander, with sparkling eyes and a huge smile. He showed me the ropes that winter, became the big brother I never had, and gave me the inspiration to pursue the life of Live to Ski!!!! 35 years later I have no regrets................
He moved away after my first year, Telluride, he said is where it was at, bigger mountains, smaller town! I almost followed him but I got in with the ski corp for a really good job and stayed put!
I often asked people I meet from Telluride about him and they all seemed to have a great story of him.
Until today, I'm not sure if he knew what positive influence he had on my life!
But now that he's on the other side, I know he knows..........
My thoughts are with him and all that knew him
I celebrate his life!
Enjoy yourself it's later then you think! TS
