Best road songs

Here's today's work distraction exercise: give up the list of your favorite "road-themed" songs that usually end up on your roadtrip soundtrack.

Here's my top-20...

Richard Thompson - "1952 Vincent Black Lightning"
Tom Waits - "Big Joe and the Phantom 309" (Red Sovine)
Bruce Springsteen - "Born to Run"
Allman Brothers - "Ramblin' Man"
Graham Parker - "Blue Highways"
Gram Parsons - "Wheels"
Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen - "Hot Rod Lincoln"
Bob Dylan - "Highway 51 Revisited"
Steve Earle - "Copperhead Road"
John Hiatt - "Drive South"
Sonny Landreth - "The Road We're On"
Little Feat - "Willin'"
Bruce Springsteen - "Thunder Road"
Beat Farmers - "Blue Chevrolet"
The Who - "Goin' Mobile"
Hank Williams - "Lost Highway"
Lucinda Williams - "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road"
XTC - "Roads Girdle the Globe"
Dwight Yoakam - "Guitars, Cadillacs"
Jackson Browne - "The Road & the Sky"

Holy crap man.....that's quite the list. Good tunes for sure....

Although on road trips I prefer:

Young MC - Bust a move
Sir Mix A Lot - Baby got back
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice baby
Run DMC - Tricky
N2Deep - Back to the hotel
Beastie Boys - Paul Revere
Paperboy - Diddy
Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre - It's like that
Run DMC - Down with the King
Tribe Called Quest - Scenario
House of Pain - Jump around
Ice Cube - Check Yo' Self
Naughty by Nature - O.P.P.
Tone Loc - Wild Thing

And maybe I'll throw in a little Bluegrass on occasion....Union Station, Nickel Creek, Yonder

Mike - "Riders" didn't make my list, though "L.A. Woman" was a consideration.

"America's Greatest Band of All Freakin' Time"? Not in my book. Little Feat (Lowell George period) would be my choice.

The good news? There are no wrong or right answers. It's all about personal preferences.

I dislike the Doors almost as much as the Dead- borrring!!! But- to each their own.

Let's see- After shuffling, the first 20 songs on my Zune quick list are:

Poison- Alice Cooper
Fast Car- Tracy Chapman
Take it on the Run- REO Speedwagon
Crime Don't Pay- Mike Ness
Travelin' Song- Avett Brothers
4 Kicks- Kings of Leon
Chick Habit- April March
We're Not Gonna Take It- Twisted Sister
Wait-White Lion
Rattle my Cage- Rehab
Lips of an Angel- Hinder
Red Water- Rehab
Seven Nation Army- White Stripes
Fans- Kings of Leon
Animal- Nickleback
Search and Destroy- Metallica
November Blue- Avett Brothers
Come Together- Beatles
Cum on Feel the Noise- Quiet Riot
Addiction- Rehab

I guess if you don't like overly dramatic, belt it out, sing along car rides, we shouldn't share a shuttle...

I like all kinds of music but I am guilty of listening to 80's butt rock too. I even have some Doors and Dead on my Zune, but I would only put them on if I wanted to go to sleep- with a few exceptions:
Truckin', Touch of Grey,People are Strange, Touch Me

Willie Nelson-''On the Road Again'' and Tenacious D's ''The Road'', at least I think that's the title.
