13 and counting!!!

A tax cheat is running the US Treasury. So far 13 other high level nominations have been withdrawn, mostly from failure to pay taxes.

Political Kickbacks:
Bill Richardson: Sec. of Commerce

Tax "Problems":
Tom Daschle - Sec. of Health and Human Services
Nancy Killefer - Dep. of Dir. OMB
Hilda Solis - Labor Sec.
Kathleen Sebelius - 2nd Sec. of Health and Human Services
Susan Tierney - Sec. of Energy
Jane Garvey - Dep. Sec. of Transportation
Caroline Atkinson - Under Sec. of International Affairs
Ron Kirk - Trade Rep.

Personal Reasons:
Annette Nazareth - Dep. Sec. of Treasury

Anti-Semitic Comments:
Charles Freeman Jr. - National Intelligence Council Chair

Ideological Reasons:
Judd Gregg
Sanay Gupta

The "Oops, I forgot to pay enough taxes" routine is getting pretty boring, I admit. It's not good.

Now to your flawed list.

Solis - confirmed. (oops!)
Sebelius - awaiting confirmation, not withdrawn (oops!)
Kirk - awaiting confirmation, probably today (oops!)

Freeman - derailed by AIPAC hit squad.
Gupta - withdrew because of pay cut.
Tierney - withdrawn. Deputy Secy of Energy. Personal reasons.
Garvey - withdrawn. Reason not given.
Atkinson - withdrawn. Reason not given.

If you kept up with the Freeman debate over the last month, describing him as "Anti-Semetic" is quite the stretch. He criticized the utility of Israeli policy in quite the erudite and reasonable manner. I disagree with his views in a few important areas, but I also see the point he wishes to address as very important to discuss... But then, I'm a bit of a deep thinker in that regard...

As for taxes:
Do you really want to reject viable, qualified, experienced, knowledgeable candidates because they made errors paying their nanny or house-keepers' taxes back in 1993-94 when they paid a wage of $7 an hour? So you'd disqualify someone from providing their expertise to a national problem for a sum of say, $1200 in neglected taxes? Nice.

I suppose if you're one of the same people who agreed "Deficits don't matter" and "The Constitution is just a piece of paper" this line of reasoning is consistent with a certain logic.

Of course, some people watch the NFL draft and the MTV music awards with greater sense of urgency than, say, understanding the simplest macro economic data. To them, I say, um, let's go Baltimore Colts!

Gee, I thought the point was that Mescalimick struggles with basic addition. Was there something else, besides the mistakes and distortions?

CasperMike, it's raining hard today! Right now I'm in a pretty fragile emotional state over the Bristol/Levi breakup. They were such a cute, young couple, so full of promise. Now, it's just another broken relationship. Sad, sad, sad. My despair is mixed with a little anger. I bought them a lovely wedding gift and now I can't find the damned receipt. Guess I'll just send the gift to the RNC so they can donate it to charity along with Momma Palin's wardrobe.

Question: how many Xanax should I take with a Bloody Mary? I can't seem to find dosing recommendations anywhere on the interwebs.

Oh well, thanks anyway. I'll see how a handful works with a large tumbler of vodka and a splash of V8. Warning: it could make my posts somewhat garbled.
