yes, it matters. use a hypalon d -ring as the glue is not made for bonding to PVC(most likely the other type of material, if it's not a hypalon d ring.) you'll just end up wasting allot of your time,money and make more difficult work / clean up for yourself down the line.
a test to do on the the mystery d-rings.... if they are pvc they will get tacky if you wipe MEK on a test spot . not so if they are hypalon.
take your time to do it right the first time. be careful about every step and your d-rings will thank you with years of reliable service.
make sure the glue is new too. if you don't know it's age, buy new glue. again, another great way to waste your time, work and money is doing repairs with ancient or cheap glue. if it's old, get some bostik through clavey. great glue. if there is any doubt on the d rings, i'd just buy some new d rings too. they are cheap and it beats being wrong.
