What boat for newbie paddler?

Ok, here's stats: 5'11", 190 lbs, some paddling experience (some of that even successful), lots of raft & cat experience @ class III, gonna take proper instruction for paddling. River running, some surfing, more than interested in playboating, because I'm a beginner. Which of the 5,000 boats out there is awesome for a good price (2-3 year old used)?

you are going to have to sit in some boats to get started. I would say pyranha, wave sport, ll, jackson for a play boat. star series, dopeness on water, also the funs, and ez's good river runners and surfers the buscuit is a dope playboat, the rev is a good play boat.(biased) ilovejackson.

I think in a playboat you want to be as far forward, with as many contact points as possible. high in the weight range with good control over the boat. diff boats fit people differently and so you need to sit in and adjust, then have a good dry feel with solid contact and pressure response from the feet thighs hips and seat. you need to be snug and comfortable with good control over your boat in the rapids and not hurtting in the flats. the thigh braces fit diff boat to boat. knee pads, hip pads. etc... you need to get in a boat or 5 and have the dealer seller friend take the time to fit you right. move it all and be sure it feels good. and comfy, sit in it for 30 minuets

.....that's just like, my opinion man.
