Project X if you are looking for freestyle. The Freeride is more of a river runner that can do tricks but not necessarily excel at it.

Is the project X a good beginner kayak to learn on though?

No, you will get throttled. the Freeride will be much more stable and forgiving, and as you push into harder whitewater will be more confidence inspiring.

You wont get throttled in a Project X any more than you will in a Freeride as a beginner.

I agree ive owned each boat the project isnt a huge leap from the freeride id go with the project x! it also does decent river running ive tried all of wavesports boats diesel, project, fuse i love my project and my diesel for what they are made for, hybrid boats just dont cut it for me.

Ok I will give that some thought. I live in Mississippi and there are no stores around here for me to demo a boat so I'm trying to get some good advice thanks

Why are you limiting your selection to just these two boats? There's a ton of boats in this genre.

My suggestion is to be really honest with yoursefl about what exactly you will be paddling. Then make your decision based on that.
