Trailing Lines on IK

Does anyone here attach a strap to the back of their IK for grabbing onto if they are dumped? I did a search here and Randady said he had one on his Force, but I could not find a dedicated thread discussing it. If you use one how long is it? I hear a strap of webbing is better than rope for this purpose as well. Bad idea or life saver?

Randaddy is stupid. I saw him in the upper Gnarrows in that IK and I'm pretty sure he was wasted drunk. Anything he does, do the opposite.

It's pretty common around here, but we run scads of tag lines on our cats too. I've considered it on the raft, but don't like the idea of passengers and dogs around them, just a bit too much entrapment potential.

There have been a few discussions over the years about their use on cats, search under "tag line".

Never use rope, always use webbing. Webbing has much less chance of getting stuck in between rocks, which rope tends to do. I think the webbing tends to float straighter also, but that may not be a fact. Use polypro, you want it to float, not sink into the rocks.

I have 2 straps on my IK, a 4' strap on the front, and a 6' on the rear that I also use when I roll it up. I've never used the straps to retrive my boat while swimming (the intended use), I use them more to drag the boat thru shallow water or strapping the boat down at the end of the day.

I ran webbing under my Force XL near the center pretty tight to the tubes, there is still a gap between the floor and tubes to grab on to. Yes, that strap gets beat up, but never seamed to get hung up.

Use webbing, only polypro -it floats, and its a little stiff. NEVER use tubular nylon webbing. It wraps around things. Twice this season I've seen people with nylon tag lines get them caught in the middle of bad places.

Thanks for all the reply's I like the idea of using the 6' NRS style strap as the Trailing line, the same one I would use when I roll up the boat. Going to put one on the Force XL this weekend for Beartrap...

I think it would also serve well as a line to drag your boat back up, so you can run hot laps through the sink! I ended up boating it both Sat and Sun, it was pretty darn fun and oh-so-gorgeous.
