Split Cararact Magnum Blade

Just pulled the oars down and saw a crack through the full thickness of the blade. Crack starts near the center where the blade flattens and going straight out to the edge of the blade. Right through the R in Cataract farthest from the tip.

Wasn't there when I hung them up for the winter. Seems like a defect. Only two years on the blades.

Does AC stand by their stuff?

I don't know but I've got a busted one that has only been used a handful of times. If you have success getting them to give you a new one let me know.

I had a cataract oar where using the sawyer blade caused the blade to spin in the oar and delaminated the plastic. Saywer blade has a funky reverse screw that sets the blade in the shaft hole.

cataract replaced it. it was pretty clear the shaft shouldn't have done this, but it wasn't their blade that caused the damage so they could easily have said it was my problem. (I quickly sold those sawyer blades and replaced them with cataract blades).

the magnum is a pretty tough blade --- I've never cracked one and I've gone through quite a few carlisles ...--- I'd contact cataract and tell them your story they are very responsive.

My dad and I have busted several magnum blades. Once we broke three over the course of a couple days and these three broke way too easily. AC sold us new ones at production cost.

magnum blades are brittle and will crack at the slightest touch of a rock. if you only float the grand canyon you will be fine.

Blades

I just switched from the cheap Sawyer Composite blades the the solid Ash blades with the tip protectors and they are awesome. The oars feel and preform so much better it like the difference between Carlsile's and Cats or Sawyers.
