something other than a saturn discussion - Upper Chetco doesn't suck

The debate could last for ever, saturn sucks, saturn doesn't suck, blah blah, I am over it.

Now for something we can all agree Does Not Suck!

The upper Chetco River in extreme SW Oregon. We horse packed our IKs 9 miles into the Kalmiopsis Wilerness and paddled 25.5 miles over 4 days through some of the most beautiful and full value whitewater in a remote and rugged setting that I have every seen in person.

Slickhorn getting a good start on the story:
riverlog: Wild and Scenic Chetco: Day 1
riverlog: Wild and Scenic Chetco: Day 2

and a bunch more photos:

I notice none of the IK's were Saturns, so i gotta ask, were you all totally pissed to have spent so much more on your gear?

Hey my buddy in Colorado packs his saturn kayak on all his trips, while my other friends Aire Kayak usually is packed away in his attic

Anybody know where I can re-cycle my Saturn? It fell apart on my second trip and now it's just yards of PVC fabric cluttering my garage, I can't even hang it from the rafters because it won't stop coming off in pieces.

Joking aside, your trip looks epic!

How is it the buzz can rack up 7 pages of additional discussion of Saturn sucks/saturn doesn't suck in a couple days, but a TR of one of THE BEST multiday whitewater IK runs goes essentially un-noticed?

Maybe I should have phrased it a different way, THE UPPER CHETCO SUCKS and is a POS!

Jason just because people don't blather on about the TR doesn't mean no one read it. Remember, people speak up about things they don't like, much more often than things they like. I personally am motivated by that trip to improve my IK skills to be able to do trips like that. The photos are awesome too, I wish I could figure out my stupid camera enough to make it take consistent good photos.

Amazing report! I recall the Oregon Field guide and thinking that the Chetco seemed worth the hike.

How reasonable was the horse team?

We just got off the North Santiam and the water has a similar (visual) characteristic in places, but the solitude out there must be smothering!
