Shredder, the original?

Would like to buy a shredder from airtight inflatables and wanted any feedback I could get about them. Quality, durability, etc...It seems like the only other option is the jacks plastic culebra. I really don't want to buy anything used. Thanks

Shredder

The "Original" Shredder sits two and had straight 18" tubes. Then they made a 4 Person version of the Shredder for some of the rental operations in Ohiopyle. For several years Tom kept the build crew very thin and you had to leave a bunch of lead time to get your boat within the season you wanted to paddle it. Later on they beefed up the staff, shortened lead times followed.

Then they came up with the "Big Rocker" Shredder with 21" center tube, to 19.5", to 18" rocketed tubed. It turns fast and resurfaces quicker, and handles bigger folks and more gear better than the "Original" Shredder.

Airtight Inflatables Shredder has been copied by several other companies, but has never been improved upon by any of them. AI will do custom orders as well, and they even make inflatable structures, tents, and other one offs. They roll up tight and are light enough for one person to carry easily.

Love my Big Rocker and have been happy with it the 6-7 years I've had it. Been paddling the "Original" since 1995 and several other configurations.

I agree with Don. I've been paddling Shredders since the late 80's and have owned two myself.

They are a light boat and as such need to be paddled with care and precision but will certainly perform better than just about any inflatable on the market.

The Original Shredder tracks better, and the Big Rocker handles more difficult WW better.

Hi

I own the Hyside Paddle Cat....it is clearly a copy of the shredder.

Was on Brown's when 3 of the orginal shredders came by. We all took out at stonebridge.

The boats are VERY similar. The shredder tubes are more pointed, the Hyside has blunt caps.

Length - with - tube I could not visually notice any signifcant difference.

I have found the hyside to like the shredder roll small and light. Easy for one person to carry, could be checked on a airliner no problem.

I bought mine from Peter who is a guide up in eagle this spring.

I am told he still has one left.
