Riot Sniper

I am a class 4 paddler looking to step up to some creeks and possibly some class 5. Are there any thoughts on this boat as a good creeker? I am 5'10" and 170. So the specs fit and I still have to demo the boat, but was hoping on some opinions to help out. Another possible boat would be the Prijon Creeker 225.

I think the Sniper is a slug. I've had a creeker for years and have loved it. Mine's actually for sale and is in great shape still.

i love my sniper. sweet spud creeker that auto boofs, turns on a dime and gets swallowed up in holes. i'm similar in size to you; 5' 11" 165lbs 30" inseam. it's a steep creek/low volume boat and as such not a great stand alone boat. it's great on homestake creek, low water clear creek of the ark, low water blackrock and bailey. i pair mine with a salto which picks up where the sniper leaves off; runs big volume, punches holes and carves a turn more than spinning like the sniper. i take the salto out on gore, the encampment, high water bailey and blackrock. if i were just getting into creeking i'd get a salto or similar boat like the jefe or burn and not a sniper. or bridge the gap and get a smaller large kayak like the riot magnum or a huck.

I haven't tried the Sniper, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first creeker. As Dan mentions above, it's a specialized, low h2o volume, steep creeker. Probably too slow for the type of things you're going to be wanting to try as you break into class V in CO.

I'd recommend something longer. I'm not against Riot boats, just against a really short boat for the types of runs we have here in CO.

PS - I thought the Creeker 225 was a small person's boat (<150 #'s), too. I did clear creek of the ark and liked it, but did a 180 of opinion when I took it down pine creek that afternoon.
