punctured Avon! help.

The wind blow my boat onto some lumber with spikes. I have one puncture hole that allows air to escape. Can I put a patch over this? Or have I done more extensive damage and need more extensive repair. Please post links or tutorials if you have them..

Thanks, I am breathing a cautiously optimistic sigh of relief. But, I have read about people slitting open their boats to patch the baffle and then closing them back up. I know AIRE's are like that and I know Avons are not like AIRE's. But is it indeed as simple as slapping a patch over it? Thanks!

Holy glue down Batman! Yes, you can patch an Avon! Use the right glue and material and follow the rules and it will be fine.

The NRS website has all the materials you need as well as detailed instructions online. It should be a simple repair.

What's funny (ok not so funny) is that I was patching holes and repairing some of the seams. I had it leaning up on a wall. The wind grabbed it and planted it firmly on the spike. Note to self and others: Make sure spikes are out of boat repair site. Glad that I can just patch it, I have all the materials out for that. Thanks for the input.

A nail hole? Check out this repair Herm Hoops just did:

I just finished another repair. A couple of weeks ago we had some very strong micro bursts of wind, one of which broke the Avon loose and impaled it on a juniper, creating to very large tears in the tube. Had it not been for the rubber rub strake, which many manufacturers are no longer putting on boats, the damage would have been worse.

The tear on the inside of the boat tube

And the outside tear

After removing seams, rub strake, d-rings, baton attachments, etc., applied inside patches

Continued:

Then seam tape over outside of tear

Then protective patches

Then re-applied the seam tape, batons, rub strake, etc.

How come the pictures showed up in preview, and then when I first looked at it, and now are just red X's?
