Making Old Bag into Semi-dry Bag

I have a medium/small nylon pack with can holders that fits exactly where I need it for stashing small goodies when rowing. I plan to grommet some drain holes so it drains after being dunked and would like to make it shed water, but don't need to make it waterproof by any means.

I was thinking about spraying with urethane from the hardware.

Anyone tried this? Successes? Horror shows? Better routes?

I've applied Thompson's Water Sealant to nylon and other materials that have lost their ability to shed water. It works quite well although the material is kind of stiff after the application. It should work very well for your purpose.

The stiffness might even be good for the grab-bag aspect.
Thanks
