My choice would be a 2007 star or all star depending on how big you are and it will get you down class III stuff upright. the biscuit is hard to learn tricks in and it flips easier because of it's edges.

How fat are you? Have you sat in a biscuit 45 for 30 minutes? 45 gal of volume does not make for the best river/play boat. I would say if your under 145 pounds with gear then the biscuit 45 would be a good choice for under $450 in good condition. If you meet those two criteria, then go put your butt in the boat for no less then 30 minutes. On the water or in front of the tv, it does not matter. If your leggs and ass are good after 30 minutes. Then the Biscuit 45 may very well be your boat...

Yeah, in general, as your first ever boat, you probably want something a little more...down-river friendly; Not just for the comfort but for stability. Unless your only paddling options will ever be a park and play spot. But there's some good river runner/play boats out there, such as the Jackson Fun series, the Wavesport Fuse series, or even the old(?) Liquidlogic Ronin series or Dagger RX series.
My first boat, 3 years ago, was an old Wavesport Z- perfect learning boat for down river running and play, then I got pure playboat this year (Biscuit 65).

Your'e preaty much on to full on play boats in the biscuit and rev. Here is the deal, if you got money fallin out your @$$ and an go get it, work hard, play hard attitude, then get what ever play tickles your ??

If this describes where you want to go with kayaking:

You catch every wave and ride every hole and go upsidedown until you get bone spurs in your ears and the ugulies feet in 4 draniages.

Then: get any o' playboat you want.

On the other hand;

You really want to try this kayaking play boating thing, but you really have no idea where to start.

Then: Buy the cheepest used river/play as described above. Spend your cash on a good pfd, drytop, helmet, spryskirt, paddle and just start boating. No matter what boat you buy now, you are going to want something different this time next year....
