I bought an old (~198
Hypalon NRS Scout 15' as a package. I didn't think the rubber was going to be worth much, but it turns out it is in pretty good shape for an old beast. It has 3 issues that I am going to repair and I wanted to get some advice.
1. Fabric showing: There are a few spots on the tops of the tubes in the bow where the material was abrated to the fabric, they don't leak at all (tested over 4 days inflated) but they are unsightly. To compound this the previous owner tried to use Boat Protectant Inflatable Raft, Kayak, Dinghy Boat Paint
boat paint. Does this paint need to be ground off before patch application? Patch over it? It is a bitch to get off.
2. A couple of seams are beginning to delaminate a bit on the edges, I bought seam tape, but should I trim the delaminated part of the old tape off? Glue it down before I apply the additional seam tape? Just apply over the old tape as is?
3. There is a solid patch on the floor that includes a Floor Grommet. The patch leaks around the grommet. The patch is otherwise solid. It loses just a little bit too much air for me to just let it be. Should I try to patch to this grommet? I am inclined to patch over the entire grommet and just skip that grommet in the floor. I have already tried to fit a foot through this gap and could not do it.
One last thing, is there an easy way to test the PSI that the floor valve is releasing at? It seems to release while the floor is not as rigid as I am accustomed to for Hypalon.
