How many seasons can I safely use a helmet?

I ask because I'm getting a used Rocker FF from a friend, the 2010/2011 model (the new ones don't fit my huge head). He has used it for 2 or 3 seasons and says he's had a few bumps but no big hits. I just am curious about how much longer I can expect to use this helmet without worrying about it losing effectiveness. I'm set on buying it cause I owe him anyway for some shenanigans, but I just want to know if I should be concerned about safety next season or the one after that. Anyone have old helmets they still use?

Its not the age as much as the wear. If its had one good knock it could be done already. Alternatively if its not had any big hits it could last a very long time. I don't think most of the modern helmet materials would degrade much over time or due to UV. If your concerned check with the manufacturer.

I'd think if it was taken care of then it should be good. I'd also think that the rocker would take multiple hits before failure. Hell its 300 bones. It better! Just give it a good look over in side and out. Sweet helmets are pretty boomer. I've used helmets for 5+ years. I see people in 10 year old protec's all the time. So, in the end its your head. If it checks out, I'd put it on my head. But that really aint sayin much. Good Luck.

Right on, I'm just a little paranoid about keeping my head in one piece I guess. Last time I boated with him it seemed pretty decent, and I tip over a lot more than he does so I doubt it's hit many rocks! XD thanks gentlemen.
