Hi, any thoughts on using this product as a fire blanket?

I don't know what the temperature rating was on mine, but I used a welding blanket under a fire pan made out of a steel drum. Fire pan worked fine, when we picked it up the next morning the heat from the drum had turned the blanket into ashes. Now I have a welding blanket with a perfect circle missing. But as I said, I don't know what its temp rating was.

Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association has a fire blanket on their on line store that is rated for the Grand Canyon Ranger Inspection. Check it out.

Always a good idea to elevate your pan using some river rock for that very same reason you do it to avoid scorching the ground

The blankets shown in your link are not coated and will cause itchy problems.
Get the coated type.

Yah, I've been using some regular welding blanket and it works fine but you do have to elevate the firepan but I think that's true with all of them. Note there are different types/materials/temp ratings of welding blanket. I got mine on eBay. Not what rating is but is still going strong after 3 seasons. Not itchy. No problems.

I picked up a welding blanket at Harbor Freight for about $17. Much cheaper than the "official" river fire blankets, and I think it works just as well, with a little care.

The orange fiberglass welding blanket (coarse weave) is of much lower temp rating than the white stuff (fine weave). Available at your local welding supply.

This is where we have it in our store. It's a good one and will last a long time.
