Cuben Fiber Dry Bag

Hey Everyone,

I have been following this forum for a while but its the first time I am posting...Check out the DIY Cuben Fiber Dry Bag I built. It is 14" tall and 9" wide and will hold 5 Liters.. I built it using the .75oz cuben fiber. It weighs 18.8 grams (.66 ounces). It is 100% water tight..

Cuben Fiber

Cuben Fiber is the worlds lightest strongest material and was designed to be used in racing sails.. To manufacture it they use Dyneema fibers sandwiched between two layers of Mylar film which makes it 100% water proof.. Its now being used for lightweight super strong outdoor gear. The material I used in the dry bag is .75oz a square yard and has a break strength of 105lbs/in which is about 30% stronger then silnylon.. The bag is 100% bonded so no leaky seams..

That link shows a tarp made if it on the home page, but I couldn't actually find anything made of cuben fiber on there.

I am about to start selling tarps made out of the stuff. Check out Backpacking Light. The stuff is huge over on that forum.. Granite Gear also just started making dry bags out of the stuff. It might go mainstream in the next few years but right now the cost is too prohibitive. Around $25 a yard!

Checked out your add on mountainfitter, looks cool, would like to have one in my pack. How much do you think a tarp would cost retail (roughly)?

Cuben Fiber Tarp

They will be very competitively priced when you compare them to Backpacking Light and Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben Tarps plus my tarp is larger and more versatile..... They will go on sale in the next few weeks...
