Beginner Kayak

looking for a good beginner's kayak that can handle small day trips, local holes but will be able to handle a weeks trip and then creeking.

Any suggestions? Thinking of doing a used boat to start with.
I am 6' and about 220

can reply to [email protected] for quicker response

Doing local holes and a week trip is a tough combo. Bunch of stuff in the classified section but not sure if there is one boat to do both.

ya you cant have a play boat and a creek boat in one, just won't happen. I advise getting a play boat and running that until you actually need a creeker, which won't be for a season or two at best.

Or go with a river runner for doing stuff like Filter Plant, Bridges, Brown's Canyon.
But I think your skills will come along quicker with a play boat.

What are your thoughts on Liquid Logic boats? Who makes a good play boat?

I am about the same size as whitewaterboy and a beginner as well. I was considering a Inazone 240 as my first boat, but also found a old Riot Hammer cheap that I am considering. Any thoughts on these two boats or suggestions about what other beginner boats I might find cheap?

If you are looking for a boat that can do it all check out the Pyranha Ammo. It is a river-runner with a planning hull, that surfs super well, and is good for spins and cartwheels as well, but it also has enough volume to work well for intermediate creeking and big water...
see Cutch's advice on this thread: https://www.mountainbuzz.com/forums/f...mmo-31620.html

The Ammo looks killer but it has been suggested to me that a playboat style 'yak might be difficult to learn in (I've only been out a few times and I think the same goes for whitewaterboy). Do you think the Ammo makes a good first boat? If so, would you recommend playboats for first boats in general? Also any thoughts on the old school Hammer to learn with or the more updated Inazone? Thanks for your advise, its certainly appreciated!

Go with what's comfortable and feels like it's a good fit on you not too big not too small... Probably mostly not to small for you.
