AT paddles suck?

Do AT paddles suck shit or am I crazy? I broke my AT4 play carbon in one season and got a brand new AT2 standard and i broke it on the first time I took it out on a CLASS III RIVER!

Who has a say on this crap?

dude! that sucks! But i have been using AT paddles for 7 years. My first one lasted five years. I beat the hell out of it and paddled hard, nearly everyday of the season those five years. My second AT is holding up great. I am sorry you had a bad experience. But I love mine. I hope you dont write them off so quickly.

I love my AT. I've been smacking it hard for 6 seasons. be sure to epoxy or at least tape over any dents where you break through the gel coat. i imagine if you let water in to it, it wouldn't last too long. my 1st 2 ATs i had bought used and they only lasted me another season or two beyond the original purchasers year or two., but his one has been great. i just redid the gel coat over the entire thing and hope to get many more years out of it.

Yea, I've heard nothing but good things about AT's lifespan. After just breaking a Werner that I bought at the end of last season, I'll be making the switch.

Thanks for the heads up on the gel coat Dave, I'll be sure to do that when I get mine. I would have never thought of that on my own.

I love my AT paddle. I use an AT2 for creek and play and usually get 3 seasons out of the blade with very hard use, boating 4-6 days a week in May and June, big south, OBJ etc. Paddles break, no matter what the brand. Bummer that you had that experience but I'm sure AT will take care of you. I think most importantly, be careful about how you treat the paddle off the river. I think people put a lot of pressure on them with boats and gear often on top. Take good care of them off the river and they will take good care of you on the river...

Apparently, Mr. Gnarquist is a fan of AT paddles, see what he has to say here: CKS Squad Review: Fred Norquist Reviews The AT2 Bent Shaft Whitewater Kayak Paddle | Colorado Kayak Supply Blog
