tate creek slide on the Rogue river
Just got back from a short trip on the Rogue. We did the water slide at Tate Creek and noticed that the "top rope" section anchored to a tree looks very sketchy. The line looks like ~2" diameter shore line from a large freighter, and there is no tail of rope hanging out of the knot so my concern is that the existing knot could easily fail. I'd say rety the knot but its a very large bulky rope so I figured I'd be better off reporting it and defering to someone else on this matter.
I'd estimate this is maybe 50 or so feet of rope from the tree to where it ties into other rope hanging over the face of the 20' or so of cliff face.
If someone with a lot of climbing skill and any gear to donate could help shore this setup up it would possibly save someone from injury someday. I'm thinking at the very least a redundant safety line in case the main line fails but I'm no climbing expert so I would defer to someone who is ...
I guess the trick setup would be a steel cable or some sort of real anchor into the rock face. I'm not sure how much the "wild and scenic" nature of the river should be disturbed ...
