Roaring Fork River Closure @ 27th Street Bridge Construction, Sept. 12-16
The City of Glenwood Springs and Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction announce the closure schedule for the deconstruction of the current 27th Street Bridge and installation of the new traffic bridge. In just 84-hours, from the start of the closure to when the new bridge opens to traffic, our community will be getting a completely new traffic bridge. The bridge slide will be an intricate operation and a major milestone for the project.
Beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 the 27th Street Bridge, S. Grand Ave. intersection, Atkinson Trail and the Roaring Fork River will close and remain closed through the weekend. Crews will be working through the night all weekend. The new bridge and the river are expected to open to traffic at 6 a.m. on Mon., Sept. 12. This is weather dependent.
During the closure, there is no through river access at 27th Street. All river users must eddy-out at or before 3-Mile Creek or put-in downstream of the 27th Street Bridge. This safety closure is critical for overhead work. Call or text before you float for the latest river status, 618-5379.
