Does anyone have any experience hiking down to the Bruneau put in and parking at the overlook before the descent? Two of my buddies have hard boats, and I am planning on self supporting in my IK. We are planning on running the classic Bruneau stretch from Indian Hot Springs down. We were thinking about hauling boats down to the river, then making a trip back up and hauling the rest of our gear down. I know that packrafters have done this trek, but would this be excessively strenuous to hike down, up, and back down again? All intel points to the road being in poor shape. We're all fairly young bucks in good shape.

I have done that exact thing with a hard shell kayak. Luckily there was a little snow on the road and we were able to drag them down with no damage. It would be a terrible carry if you had a backpack set up. When I've packed my kayak in on other runs, I've used the frame from an old external frame back back. It works great once you get the rigging dialed in, i.e. right height above the ground.

Call Jumbo's in Bruneau. Pay a local to drive you into Indian Hot Springs. Meet and leave your rig at the takeout.

Can a hike in from the rim be done? Sure. Why? Be a job creator man!
