Bugs on the Rogue

OK all you Oregon boaters...... I'm going on my first Rogue trip in two weeks. Do I need to bring bug protection? Are we talking major chemical warfare & head to toe mosquito nets like Deso, a can of all purpose bug spray, or none at all like the Main Salmon????
Thanks River Rats
KJ

Not too bad there. Occasional deer fly is about all. Late summer is when yellow jackets get aggressive around food. Poison oak is abundant. Have fun, a great trip.

This year bring some deet or equivalent. I did a Illinois trip 2 weeks ago (this is a great water year, Illinois river in June!) and the mozzies were thick in the late afternoon and evening especially in the shade (no doubt thanks to all the rain this spring).

PS, not all out warfare...no transfusions will be necessary, but they are annoying.

Just boated it last week.
No bug issues to speak of.
Some flies around the toilet at Doe Creek camp.
Other than that, you may run into some mosquitos up the side creeks (like Mule or Tate) near dusk.
Great trip, have fun!
Here's a video of my Rainie Falls run:
(any idea why two windows show when I only paste one link?)

Bugs aren't a problem on the river or in most of the camps. Just the occasional mosquito, or sometimes biting gnats. Warm afternoons and evenings in dense, shaded forest (side hikes & areas along the river trail) are another matter, and you can encounter swarms of very mosquitoes. Enjoy your trip - it's a beautiful river and canyon!

Be on the alert for bears. If you have a dog bring him/her/it.

Enjoy!
