terraserver is a great place too...if you want 3d, http://www.geocomm.comm has some good resources

call me stupid but I go to maps.google.com and I see road maps and satelite maps but no topo maps.

I use the following site:

http://data.geocomm.com/

It is called GIS Data Depo. If you have the software to analyze a DEM, digital elevation model, you can get your gradients, do fly throughs, etc. and generally impress your friends with your cartographic capabilities.

upper right corner says (satellite - oops i guess thats not topo sorry - but its pretty cool anyway)
