Westwater Friday (3/28)

We are doing an overnight trip launching this friday. Is the ranger stationed at the put in this early in the season? We are going to bring a dirtbike to run shuttle, b/c we can't find anyone else going. Will it safe to leave a dirtbike chained up at the put-in?
Anything else we should know for an early season overnighter?

There's a large parking area for leaving vehicles while you're on the water but secure anchors may be hard to find. There are some campsite parking spots adjacent to a heavy steel chain that you should be able to chain the dirt bike up to but you should check on this first with the ranger. The launch calendar is full for this Saturday, and that they started staffing the ranger station in the first part of the month so you should expect to see the ranger there. I'd recommend you ask where you can chain up the bike when you see him, preferrably before you run shuttle.

make sure you've got warm gear and also have everything that's required by the permit.

have a good trip!

because the calendar is full saturday - what are the chances that if we just didn't run shuttle and took off Saturday afternoon we would fun a ride back to our car?

I'm sure there will be folks doing day trips on Saturday you could hitch with. As long as you don't mind waiting around it should be a pretty safe bet.
