What do you guys think for level? How nasty will Skull be? Ran it at a few other levels, but never high water.

Skull at high water is actually isn't a problem. The river opens up on the left and the typical right to left move is easy. Just try to stay out of current, if you hit Rock of Shock you will flip.

At high water I think the bigger obstacle is Funnel Falls and the swim if you do get into trouble. Most people mess up on Funnel and then end up swimming the rest of the canyon. The good thing about high flow, you will be done with the canyon in less than an hour.

Hi,

In the past, by the mid 20's, a left run at Funnel has opened up, and was a pretty smooth run that keeps you away from the real risky area. Of course, that might change in any given year, but it's something to look for as you approach.

I sort of disagree about Skull. Yes, it's quite a bit different. But you have to be very sure to stay left left left. The pile on the Rock of Shock, and the toilet bowl just to the left of the Rock are definitely things you want to be away from.

FWIW.

Rich, that's what I meant. No way in hell I'd want to be under or near Rock of Shock at that level. Last time I've ran it at 23k Skull seemed straight forward if you ran WW multiple times. Just pull a few times to the left and I was in the clear.

Like I said--spanked you didn't it! You paddled it and made double or more the time it would take to row it, consider yourself very fortunate! Many of us have endured far worse behind the oars. And yet we can't get enough of it (especially in April and October).

it seems like paddling it in a 6 ft long playboat is slower than a raft
