We were asking the same question when we were out there last week. I bet it's possible to arrange a helicopter drop up the canyon to scout and possibly run it. I think it would be hard to get in there by foot. It seemed like the outfitters in Kauai focus on sea kayaking, so you may need to get your own boat out there.

I think there was a thread on this a few years ago... I think the consensus was the run wouldn't be worth the amount of work it would take to pull it off.

Looking at the only TR, there seems to be an upper section that requires repelling down into the canyon, requiring class V+ creek skills and a lower section that has more of a big water class IV with one V feel to it. I wonder if there is a relatively easy way to access the lower section. It would be fun to take a vacation there some day and bring the boats. Although, it sounds a bit crazy.

For those who don't know the local geography, I think the Waimea River is one river valley across from the CryMeA River.

It's been done. Paul Tefft from EnviroAction Sports over in Aspen was part of the 4-man crew led by Sam Drevo. Pretty sure he filmed it so there should be some footage out there. Drevo's write-up probably scared everyone else away.

Kauai has SIK rivers

Scotty W. is correct. Waimea Canyon is awesome, mega hours and years of gnarly hiking/flying/scouting and dodging pakalolo growers and poaching private property to get some of the rivers there figured out. I will post some vids when I get a chance. Hanalei River was featured in one of our old vids - Paddlemania. Rad dude boater Scott Young was integral in Kauai exploration and first d's also. Scotty W. - congrats on being a dad!!
